ATRIUM well received at Capita Conference, Page 2 of 3 Following on from David's presentation Steve Clow, (Director of Property for Hampshire County Council), Peter Jones ,(Director of Property for Birmingham City Council) and Janet Young (Head of Estates for the DCSF) each provided case studies where large scale reductions in floor area and desk space within each organisation had helped to deliver vast cost and energy savings. Each organisation had undergone projects whereby the relocation of staff into one building from various building had enabled the sale of surplus property, this had in turn enabled refurbishment projects to be undertaken on the remaining site. Mike Goodwin of Bangor University provided an interesting introduction to the Estates Management Statistic (EMS) project used by 157 universities. The project allows the universities to compare data against each other which in turn provides an indication on performance. This provided a good idea of how good quality data in a well structured system can be used to improve service delivery and increase efficiency savings. After lunch ATRIUM's own Terry Pitt discussed the information requirements necessary to inform an effective and efficient property and asset strategy, inperticular, integration, standards and delivery.
