As the conference moved into the afternoon Keith Gordon from West Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership detailed how improving partnerships and joining up local services can deliver efficiencies and improved services. He is currently working with many Local Authorities and provided a number of examples where by working in partnership, which can sometime be a challenge initially, service delivery has been greatly improved.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Michael Watkins was unable to make the conference which resulted in Andy Sheppard, Head of property for Essex Police being the final speaker Andy explained in very ‘practical’ terms how he has managed the Essex police estate particularly reducing number of police stations as the customer facing police services move into other delivery points e.g. libraries, council offices, etc.; altering existing buildings such police houses to become police stations; carrying out minimum maintenance to non-customer facing facilities such as police HQ; selling off non-core facilities such as sports facilities
